Annual Preventive Gynecology Exams
Annual preventive exams with your gynecologist are an important part of your overall health and for detecting possible abnormalities so that they can be treated as soon as possible. Annual gynecology appointments should begin in your teen years and continue on through all phases of your life. Annual exams become especially important when a woman is sexually active. Annual Routine Gynecological Exams Include:
- Pelvic Exam
- Pap Smear
- Routine Blood Work and Urinalysis (To Check For Abnormalities)
- A Breast Exam (includes providing information on self breast examinations)
- Contraceptive Counseling

Menstruation Abnormalities
All women experience their menstruation cycle differently, with variations in the timing, length of cycle and the amount of bleeding that is considered normal. In some cases however, abnormal changes in a woman’s menstrual cycle can be a sign of other conditions. Some signs of menstruation abnormalities include:
- Bleeding after sex
- Unusually heavy or unusually light flow during periods
- Menstrual cycles that occur less or more frequently than normal
- Heavy bleeding (Menorrhagia)
- Missing periods
- Periods that are longer or shorter than normal
- Spotting or bleeding between periods
- Bleeding after menopause
